I’ve been writing since I was a child, when my parents often forced me to leave my room to watch television so I would develop normally. Despite their best efforts to change me, they realized my bent before it was too late–I have been raised up in the way that I should go and now that I am old, I will not depart from it!
Born on the day Josef Stalin died, I appreciate the irony of this and hope that in some small way, my life makes up for his.
I live in Ames, Iowa with my husband, Scott, several interesting children (five of them are young adults, so the number at home may vary), two grandchildren, occassional well-behaved houseguests, and many of the characters in my stories.
Someone else wrote this quotation, but I couldn’t improve on it as a description of my belief and practice:
Salvation is something for the here-and-now. It is for the world - the entire creation. Salvation affirms that the destiny of created reality is with God. The distinction between heaven and earth is not geographical. Spatial images function as metaphors and symbols for the disruption of sin - the ways in which we exclude God from our lives and society. To be ‘in Christ’ is already to have that relationship restored. It is to be filled with the life of God. For individuals, therefore, salvation is something that we enjoy now and is supposed to transform life, living, choosing, acting and world-making here and now. Its purpose is to include us in God’s mission of transforming this world into the Kingdom of God (cf the petition in the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Your kingdom, your will be done on earth …’ In one sense, the question of where we “go” after death is supremely uninteresting: if we share in the Life and purposes of God, we share in God’s future.
Beyond Words is about the ineffable privilege of getting up everyday and living a life of faith. Everything is a miracle, now.
The opinions expressed here are not necessarily those of my church, my pastors or other family members, so please don’t think any less of them because of me.
Kathy,
You visited my blog and left a comment about my wordpress username: wordsworth…but that automatic spam thingy captured it. I tried to set it free, but it flew off into cyberspace. All this to say that I’m not TRYING to be rude and ignore that comment! I’ve enjoyed reading your site–good stuff.
Blessings,
Barbara

Dear Kathy,
I am just making an attempt to seek you out through this blog. I am trying to establish that you are the same Kathy Hanson who has been sending me Birthday wishes and also letters of encouragement to my husband Dilip Dutt who ministers the word of God to the tribes and ethnic groups of people on the eastern Himalayas along with 155 of our Pastors and Evangelists who have all come out of deep witchcraft and sorcery into the wonderful saving grace and light of Christ.
If I am not wrong I think it is your Church at Roseville where my husband Dilip ministered in the two morning Services on the 25th of November 2007, on invitation of your Pastor Tim Tyler. Dilip often speaks about that day he remembers fondly when several of your Church elders and, it may be that you were also there to greet and pray for him in the prayer room of your Church prior to the morning service. My husband faces a lot of oppositions and hardships in ministry for which your prayers have always been meaningful and encouraging.
I have recently received a Birthday Card from you. Thank you so much for this. However, I would like to let you know that my birthday is on the 17th of August 1967. My husband Dilip’s is on the 24th of March 1957 and my two children, Roshan 18 and Rahel 14 are 17th Jan 1990 and 23rd December 1993 respectively.
Please do confirm that I have found the right Kathy Hanson of 22436 Milner, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081, USA. It would be good if I could connect with you through email. Nevertheless letter writing should work out slowly but surely. May God bless you and your efforts for His kingdom and the ministry you have with all those concerned.
Love and Prayers and warm hugs
Yours sister in India
Sharmila Dutt
